Wellie Wishers + the New American Girl Store in Detroit
*I did get a doll for free and I was invited to visit the AG store early. But as always, all opinions are my own.*
I’ve been an American Girl fan since I was a kid. I had my first doll at 2. I conned my family into giving me money so I could buy my own look like me. I used the ‘please daddy’ face and got my Kit doll. I LOVED these dolls.
Even now, when I see them at a garage sale or a thrift store, I pick them up. My future daughter already has quite a collection.
That’s why I wanted to get my niece into AG right away. But apparently, giving a newborn an AG doll isn’t a good idea. So she started with a Bitty Baby. And now, at almost 5, a Wellie Wisher.
Wellie Wishers are the new line of dolls for the in-between ages. They are a step up from a Bitty Baby but not quite an American Girl. They each have their own little personalities. I convinced my niece to get the redhead, Willa. Or Wella, as we call her because Wella rhymes with Ella.
Ella loves her Willa. I gave her to her right before we went to the new American Girl store here in Detroit (technically Novi.) I explained that she had to use the specific brush for her hair, otherwise, she would ruin her. I can’t even explain how much I stressed that. While Wellie Wishers are cheaper than the full-size AGs at $60, they still aren’t cheap dolls.
Here is my niece in front of the new AG store at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi. Look at the joy on her face!
This AG store is temporary. For this holiday season, they are opening a handfull of pop-up stores around the country. Basically to make it easier for parents and/or Santa to buy everything on their little girls wish list.
The store itself is pretty small compared to the Chicago or NYC store. It is one level and only carries the most popular items. It does have a little salon, though, which I think is pretty cool.
Here are Ella and Willa in front of the Wellie Wishers backpack. You can see the adorable lady bug brush on the top.
The Wellie Wishers have this awesome doll house. A not cheap doll house, but still cool.
The Wellie Wisher dolls are smaller than the AG dolls. A tad shorter and definitely skinnier. Plus, their bodies are all hard plastic, unlike a Bitty Baby or AG. Ella is convinced that the eyes are made out of glass, not plastic. (I have NO idea why.)
Here you can see the front of the doll house. I need to be rich so I can buy me, I mean Ella, all these cool accessories.
LOOK HOW CUTE SHE IS.
As we looked around, Ella grabbed almost every single of the paper cards that you use if you want to purchase one of the bigger items. She wanted to make sure Santa knew what was on her wish list. Santa better be rolling in money to get everything on her list.
She kept telling us which dolls she wanted. I told her that if she could take care of Willa, that maybe Auntie would get her a full size AG. But she had to brush her hair with the right brush, not lose her clothes, and definitely not write on her. We shall see.
The AG store at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, MI is open until the end of January 2017. I was told that they are probably going to be doing a sale for Black Friday. If you want to visit the store, I suggest you arrive early. You have to get a ticket, much like a fast pass at Disney, in order to enter. This is so the store doesn’t become crazy over-crowded. They want girls and their adults to enjoy their shopping visit.
So go get a ticket and go do your other shopping. If you arrive later than your ticket, you will be allowed to go in with the next group.
Hopefully, they will decide to keep a store in Michigan. I know I would be happy! I never mind reliving my childhood.
