Dirty Dancing at the Fox
“No one puts baby in a corner.”
The classic 80’s good girl bad boy dancing movie has hit the big stage – yes, Dirty Dancing is now Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage. And it’s coming to Detroit! Dirty Dancing will play at the Fox Theatre from Friday, March 24th through Sunday, March 25th.
The screenwriter of both the movie and the stage show, Eleanor Bergstein, said she was inspired to create the play after she learned “how many people watched the movie over and over and over.” With a live stage show, which gives more time for storytelling and songs, Bergstein was able to add 20 new scenes, 36 numbers of live music, and an eight piece band onstage.
You probably know the story of Dirty Dancing – at least I sure hope you do. If not, here you go:
It’s the summer of 1963, and 17-year-old Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman is on vacation in New York’s Catskill Mountains with her older sister and parents. Mesmerized by the racy dance moves and pounding rhythms she discovers in the resort’s staff quarters, Baby can’t wait to be part of the scene, especially when she catches sight of Johnny Castle, the resort’s sexy dance instructor. Passions ignite and Baby’s life changes forever when she is thrown in to the deep end as Johnny’s leading lady, both on-stage and off.
Tickets($30, $45, $55 and $70) are on sale now and can be purchased at OlympiaEntertainment.com, the Fox Theatre and Joe Louis Arena box offices, Hockeytown Authentics in Troy (without service charge) at all Ticketmaster locations and Ticketmaster.com. And my personal opinion, there are no bad seats at the Fox. Even the cheap seats are going to give you an awesome show.
