5 Tips for Buying the Perfect Car
Almost everyone will have to buy a car at one point or another. It doesn’t have to be a painful experience if you follow my five tips for buying the perfect car.
Before you sign anything, before any money is exchanged, do your research! Cars.com is a great resource for learning everything possibly need about every type of car. Figure out what features you want and what cars have those features. Find out how much the car you are interested in is going for new and how much used. If you plan on buying new, also take in consideration the dealership. Do they offer free car washes or free oil changes?
Decided Old Vs New
Are you going to buy new, lease, or buy used? Buying new gives you a warranty and a full knowledge of the cars history, but you will pay more. Leasing gives you the chance to have a more expensive car but it will never be yours and you could get charged high fees if you break any of the leasing terms. Used cars will cost you less, but you probably won’t know the car’s full history and may pay a higher interest rate.
Know What You Need
Will you need to haul a baby seat in and out of the car almost every time you use it? If so, you probably should get a four door. Do you NEED power windows or can you do with an older car without them? Knowing what you need (and don’t need) can help lower the cost for your chosen car in the long run.
Know What You Can Afford
Can you afford a $400 car payment or only $200? A good rule is to spend 25% or less than your entire household income on a car. Also, think about insurance. It is a good idea to call your insurance and see how much adding that new car is going to cost before you actually get it.
Test Drive Before Buying
When buying new or used, you need to test the car out first! Make sure you actually enjoy driving it before you buy it. It is also smart to bring regular passengers along for the test drive. That way you know if everyone fits and the back seat is comfortable.
