DIY Planner Series: DIY Planner Folders

After having my diy planner awhile, I realized I really needed some folders. Just to hold random crap, such as appointment cards, stickers, receipts, things like that. I COULD have gone to the store and bought some, but that is just silly. So of course, I diy’d some!

They are pretty easy to make, but they have a ton of steps. Luckily, I remembered to take a bunch of pictures this time.

I started by raiding my mom’s scrapbook room. I didn’t feel like wasting a ton of paper, so I used her small sized papers. Of course, it really doesn’t matter what size you use.

There were a billion patterns and colors to choose from. I just tried to get the colors to match at least a tad bit.

So here is my original piece of paper, nothing done to it yet.

I cut down the piece to fit in my planner. I just used one of my DIY dividers as a template for the size. I used some of that extra to make a bottom for my folder part.

Also, if you are curious, I am doing this all on my $150 textbook that I used for one story a week. I WILL get my moneys worth.

You can see I made it about an inch bigger on the sides and a half inch on the bottom. I marked the sides and such with a pencil.

Next I cut my patterned paper. The paper is thin, like computer paper. I’ll be 100% honest, I just guessed the size. I did try to make the bottom rectangle (where the vertical line starts) a bit bigger.

You can see how everything lines up.

I glued the crap out of all the bottom edges of the printed piece.

I then slapped it on the rectangle piece.

Remember those lines I made? Time to fold. If you have a bone folder thing, this would be a perfect time to get it out. I know we had one, but idk where it went. I just used the backside of a pair of scissors.

Folding, folding and more folding.

Next, glue the crap out of edges that you just folded.

Take the big piece from the beginning and glue those edges right down. I used the scissors again to make it everything was folded and stuck.

Because I’m never satisfied with doing things the easy, simple way, I decided to make an extra little pocket. I started with a little rectangle piece, leftover from folder making. I folded the sides in, just like with the original folder above.

I added some of the pretty paper as an embellishment. Just cut little strips and then glue, and fold over the extras and glue.

Here is the final product! I’m pretty happy with it. My baby folder is perfect for appointment reminder cards, or movie ticket stubs. I love my movies.
