Back to School Shopping at Target

Target is an awesome place to shop back to school. It has pretty much anything and everything you may need. You can get stuff for elementary kids and college students on the same shopping trip.

Target usually has pretty good prices. But of course, I always have extra ways to save even more.

Price Matching

Find a better price at Walmart, but hate going there? Price match it at Target! Basic rules to remember:

  • You can only PM major stores
  • The cashiers have to confirm the price, whether it be in an ad or online.
  • Technically, you can only get one item per price match. Some stores will let you get more.
  • You CAN use coupons when you price match. Just not Cartwheel.

Coupons

Coupons are a great way to save money on school supplies. At Target, you can use both a manufacture coupon and a target coupon on the same item. They also have Cartwheel, which is an app that gives you % off coupons. You can combine cartwheel, target coupons and manufacture coupons at the same time to save some serious mulah. Here are the basic rules for coupons at Target:

  • You can only use four identical coupons per day
  • There is no limit on the amount of coupons though

Red Card

A red card is Target’s debit/credit card. They have both, called the same thing. Every time you use it, you save 5% off your total purchase. Simple way to save!

Reusable Bags

Every time you bring your own bag, you save $.05! I know it doesn’t seem like much, but every cent counts!

So what is at Target this year? I went on a little field trip to show you! There is a lot of stuff, so you can jump down the page to read about Clothes, Backpacks/Lunchboxes, School Supplies, and Dorm Stuff.

Dollar Section

Every Target has a dollar section. Unfortunately, not everything is a dollar. There is some stuff for $3, some for $5. This is a tricky little spot, because they get you every time.

They have a bunch of random college stuff. Shoe hangers, jewelry organizers, bath caddies. Things of that nature. Prices range between $3-$5. No real $1 here.

They also have some electronics. Everything is $5. You can get chargers, headphones, speakers, cases, and more. I picked up a pair of headphones out of this section and they work pretty good.

Do you need any of this stuff? No. Will you buy it anyways because it’s cute? Yes.

Here is children’s school stuff. Some education stuff, crayons, socks.

Clothing

Target seriously has the cutest clothes. I focused on women’s and girls clothes. Sorry boys! I just have no idea what is “cute” in the boy world.

This is two pieces. I think it is adorable. I like to layer because my classes at WSU can be hot in the first half hour and freezing by the last.

This is such a pretty sweater/hoodie. It is thin, but very soft.

Look how pretty this is! You could totally wear it with leggings and boots.

This look seems to be in for fall. I’m not a huge fan, mostly cause I look dumb in button ups.

This dress is so pretty! You could totally layer it up for winter too.

Be comfortable even in class! Comfy pants and a comfy hoodie.

Look how adorable this is. Target doesn’t have a ton of school clothing out yet, but I’m sure they will soon.

I love this outfit for a little girl! Be comfy and look sassy.

Backpacks/Lunchboxes

Everyone needs a backpack, no matter what grade or level. I still use a backpack for college. I would be lost without it. Yes, I could use a big purse, but do you know how much of a pain in the ass that would be? I usually have to carry 2-3 stupid textbooks to school everyday.

I also carry a lunchbox. I am way too cheap to buy lunch at school everyday. Aint nobody got time for that!

Adult backpacks. Or very stylish young ladies backpacks.

They usually have deals on these. When I went on my field trip, they were 10% off. Not a ton, but hey, money off is money off.

LOOK HOW CUTE IT IS. I love it! Yes, it is green, but that just makes it more versatile. A guy or a girl could use it. It has a bunch of pockets which is awesome.

Adult lunchboxes! AKA no fun lunchboxes.

Kids backpacks are the best. Look how fun they are! You can get disney, minions, barbie.

THIS ONE LIGHTS UP.

Kid lunchboxes are so much more fun than boring adult lunchboxes. Who doesn’t want a Spongebob lunchbox? Come on.

School Supplies

I have a dirty little secret. I LOVE school supplies. Seriously! I know, I’m a weirdo. I have my own mini stockpile in my room.

Need a pen? If you can’t find one you like on this wall, you just shouldn’t use pens. 🙂

I actually don’t use small notebooks like this. I use the 5 subject notebooks. Less for me to carry and/or lose.

Crayons and glue. Everyone needs them. If you say you don’t like to color, you are lying.

Locker accessories. Are they a waste of money? Yes. Is your child going to beg you to buy them until you give in? Yes.

I love white boards and cork boards. Come on, who doesn’t?

Dorm Stuff

First off, I have to say, I hate dorms. I am so not someone who shares a room with another female. Now when I had my own room and bathroom while in London, I loved it. I shared a kitchen with my flatmates and it was perfect. Especially when I was too lazy to feed myself and Aftab made too much food.

Target has a great selection of bed comforters/sheets/blankets. I like the sets, because you don’t have to worry about getting the sheets and such separate. It’s all in the bag.

This one isn’t a set, but I think it is so cute. A city on your bedspread! Don’t forget that you HAVE to have a twin xl. Otherwise nothing will fit.

Same with this one. It’s just so pretty!

I can’t tell you how many times I have walked past these blankets and been tempted to grab one up. They are so soft to the touch.

If you do decide to just get a comforter, you need all the sheets and pillow cases. Luckily, Target has the ones to match! I recommend getting two sets of sheets, so that way if you are like me and take forever to do laundry, you still have sheets on your bed.

Don’t like white hangers? Don’t worry, you can get them in many different colors!

You HAVE to have a laundry basket. It could be hard sided, soft sided, collapsable, it doesn’t matter. Just buy one.

School Shopping at Target on Stingy, Thrifty, Broke!

You probably won’t need an ironing board. But hey, it’s pretty! Also on the top are the collapsable laundry baskets.

School Shopping at Target on Stingy, Thrifty, Broke!

Another dirty secret? I LOVE storage. Storage is good for dorms, as long as you have the room. I would wait to buy anything until you get there, so you know that it will fit.

School Shopping at Target on Stingy, Thrifty, Broke!

School Shopping at Target on Stingy, Thrifty, Broke!Pretty storage things! I want them all. But these are not cheap storage options. See above for the cheaper option.

Twinkle lights are so pretty. Make sure it isn’t against the rules to have them though. Some dorms don’t allow them.

Your dorm may have a little living area. These chairs would be great for that area. They are actually pretty comfortable to.

There is a good chance that you will need to bring your own lamp. Target has pretty good options for lamps.

School Shopping at Target on Stingy, Thrifty, Broke!

You don’t need this, but it is very pretty! You can hang up pretty much anything off of this chain. In the picture they show jewelry. But you could also do pictures.

School Shopping at Target on Stingy, Thrifty, Broke!

I have a bedside caddy on my bed right now. They are very useful. You can put remotes, phones, binders, lots of stuff in them.

Unless you have an unlimited meal plan, you will need a basic kitchen set. Or for those nights you want brownies at 2am after studying all day.

I would hope that the dorm has a shower curtain, but maybe not. They also have the waste basket, toothbrush holder, soap holder, ect.

I hope I have helped you a little bit on your back to school shopping! Stay tuned for my back to school shopping tips for other stores.
